Introduction
Web Resurrect provides a seamless integration with WordPress, allowing you to automatically publish recovered and processed content directly to your WordPress site. This guide will walk you through the setup process, configuration options, and best practices for WordPress integration.
Prerequisites
Before configuring WordPress integration in Web Resurrect, make sure you have:
- A self-hosted WordPress site (WordPress.com sites are not supported)
- Administrator access to your WordPress site
- The ability to create application passwords in WordPress
- Recommended plugins: Yoast SEO or Rank Math for SEO metadata integration
Creating an Application Password in WordPress
To connect Web Resurrect to your WordPress site, you'll need to create an application password. Unlike your regular WordPress password, application passwords are specific to each application and can be revoked individually without changing your main password.
- Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard
- Go to Users → Profile (it has to be an administrator account)
- Scroll down to the Application Passwords section
- Enter a name for the application (e.g., "Web Resurrect")
- Click Add New Application Password
- WordPress will generate a password - copy this password immediately as it will only be shown once
Tip: Application passwords consist of 24 characters separated by spaces (e.g., "XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX"). When copying the password, make sure to include all spaces.
Configuring WordPress Settings in Web Resurrect
Once you have your application password, you can configure the WordPress integration in Web Resurrect:
- In your Web Resurrect project, click on WordPress Settings in the toolbar
- Enter your WordPress Site URL (e.g., https://yourdomain.com - without trailing slash)
- Enter your WordPress Username
- Enter the Application Password you generated earlier
- Choose whether to post content as drafts (recommended) or publish immediately
- Click Save Settings
After saving, Web Resurrect will attempt to connect to your WordPress site and verify the credentials. If successful, you'll see a confirmation message and your WordPress categories and authors will be automatically retrieved.
Author-Category Mapping
One of the powerful features of Web Resurrect's WordPress integration is the ability to assign specific authors to different content categories. This is particularly useful if you have multiple authors on your site and want to maintain consistent authorship for specific topics.
After successfully connecting to WordPress, open up the Wordpress Settings panel and you'll see a table that allows you to map WordPress categories to specific authors.
- Each row represents a WordPress category
- Each column represents a WordPress author
- Check the box at the intersection of a category and author to assign that author to that category
To use this feature effectively, first select URLs in your project, then click the Map Categories button to have Web Resurrect automatically detect and assign categories. Alternatively, you can manually select categories for each URL using the dropdown menu (this option is only available for posts, not pages). Once categories are assigned, Web Resurrect will automatically use your author-category mapping when publishing to WordPress.
Tip: If you have only one author, simply check the boxes for all categories under that author's column.
Custom Rewriting Instructions
Web Resurrect allows you to provide custom instructions for content rewriting that will be used when processing your content before publishing to WordPress:
- In the WordPress Settings panel, locate the Spin Instructions field
- Enter your custom instructions for content rewriting
- These instructions will be sent to the AI when rewriting content
Example instructions you might include:
- "Rewrite in a conversational tone suitable for a blog"
- "Maintain a professional, authoritative voice"
- "Include more examples and explanations"
- "Focus on actionable advice rather than theory"
- "Do not include any external links"
Post Type Selection
Web Resurrect supports publishing content as either regular WordPress posts or pages:
- Posts: Best for blog articles, news, and time-sensitive content that should appear in your blog feed
- Pages: Better for evergreen content like product pages, landing pages, or static information
You can set the post type for individual URLs or in bulk by selecting multiple URLs and using the bulk actions menu.
HTML Content Options
Web Resurrect allows you to control how HTML content is handled when posting to WordPress:
When enabled, this option will strip all hyperlinks from the content before publishing to WordPress, which can be useful for avoiding outbound links to competitor sites or broken links.
SEO Metadata Integration
Web Resurrect automatically generates SEO-optimized titles and meta descriptions for your content. When publishing to WordPress, this metadata will be integrated with popular SEO plugins:
- Yoast SEO: The generated SEO title and meta description will be set as Yoast SEO values (requires a special plugin available in our Discord community)
- Rank Math: Compatible with Rank Math's metadata fields
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with WordPress integration, try these troubleshooting steps:
- Connection Issues: Verify that your WordPress URL is correct and includes the protocol (https:// or http://)
- Authentication Errors: Make sure your username and application password are correct
- REST API Issues: Ensure that the WordPress REST API is enabled on your site and not blocked by security plugins
- Permission Issues: Verify that your WordPress user has sufficient permissions to create posts and upload media
Conclusion
With proper configuration of the WordPress integration, you can seamlessly publish recovered and processed content from Web Resurrect directly to your WordPress site. This saves significant time and ensures that your content is published with the correct structure, metadata, and attribution.
